An Instagram video shared by journalist Brooke Davis has gone viral after she highlighted what she called “brown stains” across streets and walls in Wembley, London. The stains, linked to gutka and paan spitting, have triggered a fresh debate on public hygiene and civic responsibility.

Journalist Points Out Stains in Public Spaces
In the video, Davis walks through Wembley and films footpaths, pavements and walls marked with brown patches. She uses a sarcastic tone as she explains how common the stains have become.
“Have you seen these brown stains in London? I’m spending my day counting them,” she says in the clip. She adds that she counted almost 50 stains in just 30 minutes.
Davis also claims that while she filmed, new stains appeared in the same area. Her footage shows marks on walls, shop shutters and sidewalks, raising concerns about cleanliness in a busy London neighbourhood.

During her walk, Davis also spoke to a shopkeeper who sells paan leaves. The shopkeeper argued that only a small number of customers spit paan in public.
He said most buyers consume paan responsibly and do not create a mess. However, Davis noted that many residents disagreed. They feel the impact falls on the wider community.
Some residents have even suggested banning paan in the area to control the problem.

The video sparked intense reactions online, especially among Indian users. Many expressed embarrassment over the association with paan and gutka.

That clip focused on Rayners Lane and North Harrow areas. It showed pavements, dustbins and walls marked with similar stains.
