The city has a long-standing association with Ayurveda and holistic wellness, making it increasingly attractive to travellers seeking restorative and experience-led journeys rather than hurried sightseeing.

City of Anantha and Spiritual Significance

Known locally as the “City of Anantha,” Thiruvananthapuram derives its name from the cosmic serpent Lord Anantha. At the heart of the city lies the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, one of India’s richest and most revered temples.

The temple’s Dravidian architecture and historical significance shape the city’s rhythm, drawing pilgrims and cultural travellers from across the world.

Beaches, Museums and Artistic Heritage

Beyond its spiritual appeal, the city balances serenity with cultural richness. Kovalam Beach remains a major draw with its lighthouse views, golden sands and tranquil sunsets, alongside water sports and Ayurvedic retreats.

Cultural landmarks such as the Napier Museum and Sri Chitra Art Gallery offer insights into Kerala’s artistic legacy, featuring rare artefacts, Tanjore paintings and Mughal miniatures.

Domestic Travel Trends Also Shifting

The report also notes a shift in domestic travel patterns. Indore has emerged as a trending destination for Indian travellers, driven by its street food culture, cleanliness and urban infrastructure.

With eco-tourism, slow travel and experience-driven journeys shaping tourism choices, destinations like Thiruvananthapuram and Indore are redefining how travellers explore India.
