Thane Woman’s Organ Donation Saves Six Lives Across Mumbai to Gurugram
A 38-year-old woman gave a new lease of life to six critically ill patients through organ donation in Thane. The woman, declared brain-dead after a medical emergency, became one of the rare donors in the district whose multiple organs helped patients across cities.
Family Chooses Life Amid Grief
The woman, a homemaker and mother to a nine-year-old daughter, suffered a sudden medical crisis on December 19. Doctors at Shree Mahavir Jain Hospital in Thane later declared her brain-dead. Despite deep personal loss, her family chose to donate her organs, turning tragedy into hope for others.
Hospital officials said the family completed all consent formalities without delay, allowing the medical team to act swiftly. Their decision helped patients who had waited for life-saving transplants for months and even years.
Night-Long Effort by Medical Team
Doctors and transplant coordinators worked through the night of December 25 to retrieve the organs. The team carefully harvested the heart, lungs, pancreas and other vital organs while following strict medical protocols.

A green corridor was created to ensure quick and smooth transportation. Authorities coordinated traffic movement so that the organs could reach recipient hospitals in time. Four organs were sent to different hospitals in Mumbai, while one was flown to Gurugram. Another organ was transplanted at the same Thane hospital.
Rare Milestone for Thane District
Doctors confirmed that all six organs were successfully transplanted. An official from the hospital said this marked a historic moment for Thane district. “This may be the first instance where six organs from a single donor were retrieved and transplanted to save as many lives,” the official said.
Medical experts highlighted that such multi-organ donations remain rare due to medical and logistical challenges. The successful operation showed the strength of coordination between hospitals, transplant teams, and civic authorities.
Support for Donor’s Family
Moved by the family’s selfless act, the Mahavir Jain Trust, which runs the hospital, announced financial support for the woman’s young daughter. The trust donated ₹1 lakh, while the hospital added another ₹1 lakh to help with her future education and needs.
Doctors and social workers said the gesture honoured the donor’s legacy and encouraged more families to consider organ donation. The case stands as a reminder that one decision can save multiple lives and create lasting impact beyond personal loss.
