MP In Grip Of Cold Spell, Pachmarhi Coldest At 3.6 Degrees
Madhya Pradesh is experiencing a sharp cold spell, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in as many as 25 cities across the state. Hill station Pachmarhi emerged as the coldest place, recording the lowest minimum temperature of 3.6 Degree Celsius. The intense winter chill has affected daily life, while dense fog in northern India has disrupted rail services, leading to delays in several trains coming from Delhi to Bhopal and Indore.
Pachmarhi Records Lowest Temperature
Pachmarhi, the only hill station in Madhya Pradesh, continued to remain the coldest location in the state. The minimum temperature here hovered close to 3.5 degrees, making mornings and nights extremely cold. Other cities also witnessed a significant dip in mercury, forcing residents to rely on warm clothing and heating arrangements.
Weather experts said the drop in temperature is due to cold northerly winds and the absence of cloud cover during the night, which allows heat to escape rapidly. This has resulted in chilly mornings across large parts of central India.
25 Cities See Mercury Below 10°C
Apart from Pachmarhi, several major and smaller cities recorded minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Cities in regions such as Malwa, Bundelkhand, and parts of Chambal experienced biting cold conditions. Urban centres like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur also felt the impact of the cold wave, with temperatures remaining much lower than normal for this time of the year.
The cold conditions have affected early morning routines, with reduced movement on roads and markets opening later than usual. In rural areas, farmers have expressed concern over the impact of extreme cold on standing crops, especially vegetables and pulses.
Dense Fog Disrupts Train Services
The winter chill has been accompanied by dense fog in northern India, particularly in and around Delhi. As a result, several long-distance trains travelling from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh have been delayed. Trains bound for Bhopal and Indore reached their destinations hours behind schedule, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Railway officials said visibility issues due to fog forced trains to run at reduced speeds to ensure safety. Passengers were advised to check updated train schedules before starting their journey, as delays may continue if foggy conditions persist.
Weather Outlook for Coming Days
According to meteorological officials, cold conditions are likely to continue in Madhya Pradesh over the next few days. Night temperatures may remain low, especially in northern and central parts of the state. However, a slight rise in daytime temperatures is expected as sunlight hours increase.
People have been advised to take precautions against the cold, particularly children, the elderly, and those with health issues. Authorities have also urged homeless individuals to use night shelters arranged in urban areas.
As winter tightens its grip on Madhya Pradesh, residents are bracing for more cold mornings, while travellers remain cautious amid ongoing fog-related disruptions in rail services.
