Admission Through JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced serves as the gateway for admission to IIT undergraduate programmes. Successful candidates can secure seats in courses leading to a Bachelor’s degree, Integrated Master’s degree, or Dual Degree (Bachelor–Master).

These programmes cover disciplines such as Engineering, Sciences, and Architecture across various IIT campuses.

Only candidates who qualify JEE Main 2026 are eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2026, subject to meeting all prescribed conditions.

Important Dates to Remember

The registration process for JEE Advanced 2026 is expected to begin on April 23, 2026, and will close on May 2, 2026. Admit cards will be available for download starting May 11, 2026.

After the examination, candidate response sheets are likely to be released by May 21, 2026. The final answer key and result are scheduled to be announced on June 1, 2026.

Application Fee Details

The application fee structure varies by category and location of examination centre. For Indian nationals, female candidates across all categories, as well as SC, ST and PwD candidates, will need to pay ₹1,600, while other candidates will pay ₹3,200. For OCI/PIO (I) candidates, the fee remains the same as Indian nationals based on category.

For foreign nationals and OCI/PIO (F) candidates, the application fee for exam centres in SAARC countries is $200, and for non-SAARC countries it is $300. This reflects an increase of $50 compared to last year.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2026

To appear for the exam, candidates must satisfy all five eligibility criteria simultaneously.

Performance in JEE Main 2026

Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 in the BE/BTech paper of JEE Main 2026. Category-wise distribution applies, along with a 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates.

Age Limit

Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001. A five-year age relaxation applies to SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

Number of Attempts

A maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years is allowed.

Class 12 Requirement

Candidates must have appeared for the Class 12 examination for the first time in 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Prior Admission to IITs

Candidates already admitted to any IIT programme listed under JoSAA 2025 are not eligible. However, those who withdrew or did not report for seat allotment remain eligible if other criteria are fulfilled.

Supernumerary Seats for Female Candidates

To improve gender diversity, supernumerary seats for female candidates will continue in JEE Advanced 2026. These seats will be offered to eligible Indian nationals and OCI/PIO (I) candidates. Each IIT is required to ensure at least 20% female enrolment in its undergraduate programmes.

How the Rank List Will Be Prepared

Candidates must appear in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 to be considered for ranking. Scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics will be combined from both papers to calculate the aggregate marks.

In case of a tie, higher positive marks will be given preference. If the tie remains, Mathematics marks will be considered, followed by Physics. If no distinction is possible, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

The JEE Advanced 2026 notification provides a clear roadmap for aspirants planning to compete for IIT admissions. Candidates are advised to track deadlines carefully and ensure compliance with eligibility rules to avoid last-minute issues.
