Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC), Sagar, is set to witness a major transformation in its healthcare infrastructure with the construction of 10 state-of-the-art modular operation theatres (OTs). The ambitious project, being implemented through the sustained efforts of Sagar MLA Shailendra Jain, aims to significantly strengthen surgical facilities for patients across the Bundelkhand region.

Once completed, the new infrastructure will enable the hospital to conduct 10 different surgeries simultaneously across multiple medical disciplines. This development is expected to reduce long waiting periods for surgeries and enhance the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery at the medical college.

₹16 Crore Project to Create Modern Surgical Infrastructure

According to MLA Shailendra Jain, the project involves the construction of a modern operation theatre (OT) complex over an area of approximately 60,000 square feet. The building is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹16 crore and will house the new modular operation theatres.

In addition to the civil construction, another ₹15 crore has been proposed for equipping the operation theatres with advanced medical technology. This includes modern ventilation systems, sterilisation units, infection-control mechanisms, and high-end surgical equipment designed to meet national and international healthcare standards.

Timely Surgeries to End Long Waiting Periods for Patients

Currently, Bundelkhand Medical College faces a shortage of operation theatres, resulting in delays for patients requiring surgical procedures. Many patients are forced to wait for several days, while some critical cases have to be referred to hospitals in other cities.

With the addition of 10 new modular operation theatres, these challenges are expected to ease considerably. Patients will be able to receive timely surgical care, especially in emergency and high-risk cases. The increased capacity will also reduce the burden on doctors and medical staff.

This expansion is particularly important for patients from rural and semi-urban areas who depend heavily on BMC Sagar for advanced medical treatment.

Better Working Environment for Doctors and Medical Staff

The new modular operation theatres will not only benefit patients but also provide doctors and medical personnel with a safer and more efficient working environment. Modular OTs are designed to minimise infection risks and ensure optimal lighting, temperature control, and air quality.

Such an environment enhances surgical precision and improves patient outcomes. Doctors will be able to perform complex procedures with greater confidence, while support staff will benefit from improved workflow and safety protocols.

Hospital officials believe that these facilities will also help attract skilled medical professionals to the institution.

Inspection of Construction Work and Quality Assurance

On Tuesday, MLA Shailendra Jain visited the construction site along with BMC Dean Dr PS Thakur to review the progress of the operation theatre building. During the inspection, Jain assessed the pace and quality of the work and instructed the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on quality.

Senior medical officers, hospital administrators, and representatives of the construction agency were also present during the inspection. All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring timely completion of the project.

A Milestone for Healthcare in Bundelkhand

Once operational, the new modular operation theatres will directly benefit thousands of patients from Sagar and neighbouring districts. Bundelkhand Medical College is expected to emerge as a stronger regional healthcare hub, reducing the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities for surgical treatment.

Healthcare experts describe the project as a landmark initiative that will improve access to advanced medical care in the region. The development reflects a long-term vision to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure and improve patient outcomes in Bundelkhand.
