Earthquake Jolts Central Assam Early Morning, 2 Hurt
An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Assam in the early hours of Monday, injuring two people and causing minor damage to houses, officials said.
The tremor was recorded at 4.17 am and had its epicentre in central Assam.

According to officials, the quake occurred at a depth of around 50 kilometres. People across several northeastern states felt strong tremors, prompting panic in many areas.
Injuries Reported in Morigaon District
The injuries were reported from Morigaon district. A senior official said the injured persons were hurt while rushing out of their homes after feeling the tremor.
An 80-year-old woman, Joymoti Dewri, from Na Dalbori village in the Mikirbheta circle, suffered a head injury.

A report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said she was immediately taken to Morigaon Civil Hospital for treatment.
Another resident of the same village, Manoj Kumar, also sustained injuries. District Public Relations Officer S Buragohain said he was admitted to hospital and is out of danger.
Minor Damage to Houses, No Major Loss
Officials said minor cracks were seen in a few houses in parts of Morigaon and neighbouring Nagaon district. However, no major structural damage was reported.
The District Disaster Management Authority confirmed that the situation remains under control. Authorities are continuing to monitor the affected areas.
Tremors Felt Across Northeast and Beyond
The earthquake was felt across a wide region. Officials said tremors were experienced in central-western Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
People in northern West Bengal also reported feeling the tremor. Reports further said that the quake was felt in parts of Bhutan, Bangladesh, and some regions of China.
Residents Rush Outdoors in Panic
The sudden shaking forced many residents to rush out of their homes into open areas. In several places, people gathered outside for safety until the tremors subsided.
Officials said there were no reports of panic-related incidents beyond the minor injuries already recorded.
Northeast Remains Seismically Sensitive
Experts note that the Northeast lies in a high seismic zone. Earthquakes are frequent in the region due to tectonic activity. Authorities have urged people to remain alert and follow safety guidelines during such events.
Officials said disaster response teams remain on standby in case of aftershocks.
