Dense fog and poor visibility conditions have severely disrupted air travel across several parts of northern and eastern India, affecting thousands of passengers. Major airlines, including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India, have issued travel advisories warning of delays, cancellations, and possible diversions as winter weather tightens its grip.

States likely to face the maximum impact include Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, and parts of the Northeast, where visibility levels have dropped sharply at multiple airports.

IndiGo Issues Advisory as Visibility Fluctuates

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, confirmed that it is closely monitoring operations at airports such as Amritsar, Guwahati, Agartala, and Dibrugarh due to rapidly changing weather conditions. In an advisory shared on X, the airline said its teams are working to ensure safe and smooth operations despite the challenges.

Passengers have been advised to regularly check flight status through the airline’s website or mobile app and remain in contact with ground staff for assistance.

IndiGo Cancels Multiple Flights Due to Weather

IndiGo cancelled several flights scheduled for 28 December 2025, citing bad weather and operational constraints. Key routes between Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Amritsar, and Pune faced disruptions.

The airline reiterated that safety remains its top priority and requested passengers to remain patient as flight schedules stabilise.

SpiceJet Flags High-Risk Airports

SpiceJet also released a fog advisory, warning passengers that airports in Delhi, Jammu, Patna, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Darbhanga, and Amritsar could see major delays. The airline urged travellers to track real-time flight updates before leaving for the airport.

Air India Takes Proactive Measures

Air India echoed similar concerns, particularly for flights operating to and from Varanasi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar. The airline stated that it has deployed additional ground staff to assist passengers and reduce inconvenience wherever possible.

Passengers have been advised to factor in extra travel time, as fog may also slow airport ground operations.

Winter Weather Likely to Prolong Disruptions

Meteorological conditions suggest that dense fog may persist over the coming days, especially during early morning and late-night hours. Airlines expect intermittent disruptions until visibility improves, impacting both arrivals and departures.

Travellers are advised to stay informed, remain flexible with plans, and prioritise safety as winter conditions continue to challenge air travel across large parts of India.
