Delhi Schools Resume Offline Classes for Classes 6–9 and 11 After GRAP-4 Lifted
Delhi schools offline classes have resumed for students of Classes 6 to 9 and Class 11 after authorities lifted restrictions under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The decision follows a noticeable improvement in air quality across the national capital.
As per the latest instructions, students in these classes must attend school in physical mode only, and schools will not offer online classes for them at present.
Directorate of Education Issues Official Circular
The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a formal circular directing all government, government-aided, and recognised private schools to restart in-person classes.
The order applies to schools under the DoE, NDMC, MCD, and the Delhi Cantonment Board. According to the circular, physical classes must resume immediately for students of Classes VI to IX and Class XI until further instructions.
The DoE asked school heads to ensure smooth implementation of the order and to communicate the revised arrangements clearly to parents and guardians.
Hybrid Mode Continues for Primary Classes
While middle and senior secondary students have returned to classrooms, the DoE has allowed hybrid learning for younger students.
Classes up to Class V will continue in a mixed format that includes both physical and online classes, wherever online facilities are available. The arrangement will remain in place until authorities issue fresh directions.
Officials said the hybrid model aims to protect younger children, who are more vulnerable to air pollution and seasonal illnesses.
Classes 10 and 12 Already Running Offline
The circular clarified that Classes 10 and 12 have already been attending school in physical mode. Schools will continue conducting regular offline classes for these board-exam-bound students without any changes.
The DoE emphasised that consistency in classroom learning remains important for students preparing for major examinations.
GRAP-4 Restrictions Withdrawn by Air Quality Panel
The decision to reopen schools followed an official order by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
In its order dated December 24, 2025, the Commission announced the withdrawal of GRAP Stage 4 measures after reviewing air quality data and weather forecasts.
The CAQM noted that favourable meteorological conditions had significantly improved air quality levels in Delhi, allowing authorities to ease emergency restrictions.
Air Quality to Be Closely Monitored
Despite the improvement, the CAQM said it would continue to monitor air quality closely. A sub-committee will review pollution levels and weather forecasts from agencies such as the IMD and IITM before recommending any further action.
Officials said authorities could reintroduce restrictions if air quality worsens again.
Schools Asked to Inform Parents Immediately
The DoE instructed all Heads of Schools to immediately inform parents and guardians about the resumption of physical classes and revised attendance requirements.
Schools must ensure that classrooms follow existing health and safety protocols, including ventilation and cleanliness, to safeguard students’ well-being.
Several schools have already resumed regular schedules, with attendance improving steadily, according to education officials.
Relief for Students and Parents
The reopening has brought relief to many students and parents who had raised concerns about prolonged online learning. Teachers also welcomed the move, citing better classroom engagement and academic continuity.
Education experts believe the return to offline classes will help students regain routine, focus, and peer interaction after weeks of disruption caused by pollution-related restrictions.
What Lies Ahead
For now, Delhi schools will continue functioning as per the revised instructions. Authorities will review the situation periodically and take decisions based on air quality trends.
Parents are advised to stay updated through official school communication channels and ensure children follow health advisories while attending classes.
