Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of his son Agnivesh Agarwal, who passed away at the age of 49 in New York. Agnivesh suffered a cardiac arrest while recovering from injuries caused by a skiing accident.

In a heartfelt message, Agarwal described the loss as the most painful moment of his life. He said his son was healthy, energetic, and full of ambition, and the family believed he was recovering well at Mount Sinai Hospital. The sudden turn of events left them devastated.

A Journey from Patna to Global Business Leadership

Born on June 3, 1976, in Patna, Agnivesh Agarwal grew up in a middle-class family and later emerged as a respected business leader. Agarwal recalled his son’s life journey with pride, describing him as a man of compassion, strength, and purpose.

Agnivesh studied at Mayo College in Ajmer and later went on to establish Fujairah Gold. Over the years, he played a key role in the Vedanta Group and served as Chairman of Hindustan Zinc. He also led Vedanta’s subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd., where colleagues admired his leadership and clarity of vision.

A Leader Who Remained Grounded

Despite his professional success, Agnivesh stayed deeply connected to people around him. His father described him as warm, humble, and approachable. To Anil Agarwal, Agnivesh was not just a son but also a close friend and a source of inspiration.

Agarwal shared that his son strongly believed in building a self-reliant India. Agnivesh often spoke about the nation’s potential and questioned why India should ever lag behind. These conversations shaped a shared dream between father and son.

Renewed Commitment to Giving Back

Following his son’s passing, Anil Agarwal renewed his commitment to donate more than 75% of his earnings toward social causes. He said he would continue to live simply and work harder to uplift society, carrying forward Agnivesh’s ideals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, calling the loss deeply shocking. He acknowledged the emotional tribute shared by Anil Agarwal and prayed for strength and courage for the family.

Agnivesh Agarwal is survived by his father and his sister Priya Agarwal, who serves on the boards of Vedanta Ltd. and Hindustan Zinc Ltd. His legacy, both personal and professional, continues to inspire many.
