EAM Jaishankar Slams Western Criticism Over Operation Sindoor at Luxembourg Event

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Wednesday strongly criticised what he termed as Western double standards while reacting to India’s cross-border military action, Operation Sindoor, during an interaction with the Indian community in Luxembourg.

Without naming specific countries, Jaishankar said several nations far removed from South Asia are quick to pass judgments on India’s security decisions without adequately understanding the realities on the ground.

‘Free Advice From Afar Doesn’t Reflect Reality’

Referring to global reactions following Operation Sindoor in May 2025, Jaishankar said many governments rushed to advise New Delhi on restraint and conduct, often without context or consistency.

“People sitting far away will say things — sometimes thoughtfully, sometimes carelessly, sometimes driven by self-interest,” he said, adding that such commentary has become part of global diplomatic behaviour.

He pointed out that despite moral posturing, countries ultimately act based on their own national interests. “At the end of the day, nations will do only what directly benefits them. Advice is free, but action is selective,” the minister remarked.

Call to Focus on Constructive Partnerships

Jaishankar urged the audience to not be distracted by external criticism and instead concentrate on building meaningful global partnerships.

He said India should work positively with countries willing to engage constructively, while adopting a different approach toward those who merely offer rhetoric without support.

His remarks underscored India’s growing confidence in navigating international pressure while safeguarding its core security interests.

‘Look at Your Own Region First’: Jaishankar’s Message to Critics

In a pointed observation, Jaishankar challenged critics to reflect on conflicts and violence within their own regions before commenting on India’s actions.

“If you’re genuinely concerned, perhaps start by examining your own neighbourhood,” he said, highlighting what he described as inconsistencies in how some Western nations respond to crises at home versus those abroad.

Strengthening India–Luxembourg Ties

Beyond geopolitical issues, the External Affairs Minister highlighted the expanding partnership between India and Luxembourg in areas such as politics, finance, business, and technology. He praised the Indian diaspora for playing a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations.

“Glad to interact with members of the Indian community in Luxembourg. Their contributions continue to deepen India–Luxembourg ties,” Jaishankar said.
