Another Hindu Man Killed Near Dhaka, 2nd In 24 Hrs

A Hindu grocery shop owner was reportedly killed after being attacked with sharp weapons in Narsingdi, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Monday night.

The incident has sparked fear and anger among local residents.

The victim has been identified as Sarat Chakraborty Mani, aged 40.

He was running his shop at Charsindur Bazaar in the Palash Upazila area when the attack took place.

Attack at Grocery Shop

According to local accounts, Sarat was at his shop as usual when unidentified assailants suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons. He suffered critical injuries.

Residents rushed him to a nearby hospital. He died on the way due to severe blood loss, locals said. The details could not be independently verified.

No official statement has yet been issued by the police or other law enforcement agencies.

Family and Background

Sarat is survived by his wife Antara Mukherjee and his 12-year-old son Abhik Chakraborty.

Family members said he had earlier worked in South Korea and returned to Bangladesh a few years ago.

He later built a house in the Brahmandi area of Narsingdi, where he lived with his family.

Relatives described him as a quiet and hardworking person with no known disputes.

Social Media Post Raises Concern

A family member said Sarat had recently expressed worry over the situation in Bangladesh.

In a Facebook post dated December 19, he wrote in Bangla about rising violence and unrest in the country.

Neighbours described him as calm and socially responsible. One neighbour said there was no personal rivalry that could explain the killing.

Second Killing in One Day

Sarat’s death came on the same day as the killing of Hindu journalist Rana Pratap Bairagi, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jessore.

The back-to-back killings have intensified concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.

Activist Alleges Extortion Threats

Social activist Bappaditya Basu condemned the killing and claimed Sarat had faced threats days before his death.

Basu alleged that extremists had demanded money from him and warned him against approaching the police.

These claims remain unverified, and authorities have not confirmed any such extortion attempt.

As of now, there has been no official response from police regarding the motive, suspects, or arrests in the case.
